Mike Rohrkaste for 55th

Continuing the success of my first term when I was able to have 9 bipartisan bills signed into law, I was able to add 10 more new bipartisan bills in the 2017-2018 Legislative Session!  I was also able to secure positive changes in the state’s budget by adding millions of dollars of new funding for school based mental health, and elder care services. Through my work on the Joint Finance Committee I was able to secure funding to help finish the Loop the Lake project and start an Airport Rescue Fire school at Fox Valley Technical College (in conjunction with Appleton International Airport).
With your vote on November 6, 2018 we can continue this progress in my third term!

With record low unemployment, local businesses need people who are qualified to fill their open positions.  Mike listened to area leaders and invested in    worker training programs to help candidates get the skills they need. He also authored a bill to retain Wisconsin workers and to attract new employees to move here from out of state.  We need all able adults in our workforce so Mike supported reforms that transition people off government assistance and onto a path for success: a career with good pay, benefits, and advancement.

Mike supported a record increase of $636 million in K-12 education funding, so that our teachers and students have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.  In addition, he secured millions of new dollars to expand school based mental health programs.  He also voted to keep college affordable for hard-working Wisconsin families by continuing the tuition freeze at University of Wisconsin schools for another two years. And he voted to expand need based scholarships for students at our state’s technical colleges.

With healthcare cost continuing to affect many families, Mike authored a new law providing women more information about their mammogram results.  This information can lead to earlier diagnosis of breast cancer.  Mike increased funding to improve care for our elderly, particularly for those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.  He then worked with members of both parties to fight the heroin and opiate epidemic,  and to provide more resources for mental health and addiction treatment.

“As a resident of Neenah for over two decades while working for Menasha Corporation and Oshkosh Corporation, I understand how quality jobs are created and sustained in our communities,” said Rohrkaste. “In addition to my experience in the business world, I have witnessed what our local needs are in the areas of physical and mental health, child-care, and community interests through volunteer board service with the YMCA of the Fox Cities and Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley.”

Rohrkaste has an extensive background working to build consensus with people from a variety of professional and personal backgrounds. While in the legislature, Rohrkaste worked with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass meaningful legislation to improve healthcare, workforce development, and elder care services, particularly for those with Alzheimers and Dementia.

Rohrkaste’s campaign platform for the 55th Assembly District is straightforward and draws on expertise garnered from his career in business, volunteerism, and experience as a legislator:

  1. Continue Prioritizing Education: in K-12 and college so our workforce has the sills they need to find great careers.
  2. Further Building Our Workforce: to ensure we enough qualified people to fill open positions today and in the future.
  3. Promote Affordable Healthcare: that has better outcomes at more affordable costs for families in our state.
